Endometritis is an inflammation of the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) in female dogs. While it is often overshadowed in public awareness by more severe conditions like pyometra, endometritis in dogs can still impact a breeding program, reduce fertility, and lead to chronic reproductive issues if left untreated.
This condition can occur in both breeding and non-breeding females, but it is particularly concerning for breeders and veterinarians because it often presents subtly and may not be detected until fertility is compromised.

Metritis in dogs is a serious bacterial infection of the uterus that most often develops in the first few days after whelping (giving birth). It is classified as a postpartum emergency because it can progress rapidly, causing severe illness, septicemia, and, in some cases, death. Even when a female survives, metritis can have a lasting impact on her fertility if it causes scarring or other damage to the uterine lining.

Dobermans are intelligent, powerful, and energetic companions. Their drive to play, exercise, and stay close to their families makes them wonderful dogs. However, their boundless enthusiasm can also put them at serious risk in hot weather. Unlike humans, dogs don’t sweat through their skin to cool off.
